TITLE: Star Wars Reads Day | NAME: Justin | TKID: 3189 | DATE: 2014-10-16 02:51:03

Star Wars Reads Day was last Saturday, October 11th and was a great success for the MSG-RRG's Joint Ops! Having two events to encourage children to read and to celebrate our love for Star Wars. Darth Vader, a couple of Imperial Stormtroopers, and an out of control Wookiee brought joy to the adults and kids that participated at the B.J. Chain Public Library (Olive Branch, MS). Darth Vader discussed the importance of reading and having a library card. After the introduction, everyone enjoyed crafts, face painting, and photo opportunities with the 501st/Rebel Legion members.

That afternoon, the same 501st/Rebel Legion crew then visited the Booksellers at Laurelwood (Memphis, TN). Adam the Poet was there doing personal poetry. Other activities included games for the kids, photo ops with the 501st/Rebel Legion, and a Star Wars give-away prize pack.

This was year three for the Star Wars Reads Day worldwide celebration. No matter it be a comic, graphic novel, fictional/non-fictional, we challenge you to encourage someone to pickup a book and READ! Oh, and continue to show your love for Star Wars!

TITLE: Memphis Comic Expo | NAME: Justin | TKID: 3189 | DATE: 2014-09-13 23:43:58

On Saturday, September 13 the 501st Legion stormed the Memphis Comic Expo (hosted at the Memphis Agricenter). This is the first year for the Comic Expo, and just to say it now, it was GREAT! Local members of the Memphis area arrived at just after 9AM to setup our table and find our changing room. Along with local 501st/Rebel Legion members, we also welcomed Chris, from the Arkansas Crimson Nova Squad, with his R2D2. The Comic Expo kicked off at 10AM, with a line that had already gathered prior to the doors opening. Entering the main door, guests would walk down a short stairway where it then opened up onto the main area of the comic expo. There were about four rows of vendors lined back-to-back down the center of the floor, extending about a football fields length. Mostly occupied by comic and collectible vendors, there were also artists, illustrators, Jerry Lawler (with Batmobile), and even internet radios that were doing a LIVE show during the expo. There was also a costume contest. The atmosphere was quite welcoming for everyone, of all ages. Everyone was in and out of costume throughout the day until the around 7pm when the Comic Expo was scheduled to end. There was moderate-to-heavy traffic throughout the day. This will definitely be an event we will participate with next year if it returns.

TITLE: Memphis Redbirds: Superhero & Comic Night | NAME: Justin | TKID: 3189 | DATE: 2014-08-23 13:27:44

On Saturday, August 23rd the MSG-RRG's Joint Ops and Arkansas Crimson Nova Squad welcomed fans for the Redbird's Superhero & Comic Night. We had meet and greet with photo ops until 15minutes before the game started. There were a few first pitches made by numerous character, one being Darth Vader. He was escorted out by a Stormtrooper and Imperial Officer. Shortly after, we also escorted the umpires onto the field. Once the game was underway, we free-floated through the stadium for fan photo ops. Middle of the 3rd inning, we all went down to the field where we randomly selected a few participants to play musical chairs with the Redbirds mascot, while the remaining part of our group danced to the cha-cha slide in the background. We then took a short break and took this opportunity for group photos. After the break, we finished floating around the 2nd level (air conditioned) until about the 7th inning, at which point we got out of costume to wait for the post-game fireworks show. Overall, it turned out to be a great event!

Thanks to all 501st and Rebel members that participated. And a big thanks to the Memphis Redbirds staff for allowing us to attend!

On August 2nd, 2014 the MSG-RRG's Joint Ops participated with Jane's Gym's(Olive Branch, MS)Spin-A-Thon, supporting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The event was themed with superhero and cosplay characters of all assortments. Including Batman, dinosaurs, zombies, Stormtroopers/Darth Vader, and Wonder Woman to name a few. Their goal was $5,000, by the end of the day, they totaled $5,514! It was a great event that promoted great exercise, dancing, and overall just a family friendly event. The local 501st Legion members were proud to be part of this event. We may have went home sore, smelly, and armor failing, but it was worth every minute dancing to the Cha-cha Slide! "Bad Guys Doing Good".
